Damen Cargo Vessels is een volwaardig onderdeel van Damen Shipyards gevestigd in zowel Drachten als op het hoofdkantoor in Gorinchem.

Met ongeveer 50 collega’s (35 in Drachten en 15 in Gorinchem) bereiden we de bouw van circa 13 schepen voor op onze werven in China en Vietnam.

Voor zowel Drachten als Gorinchem zijn wij op zoek naar nieuwe collega's.

De functie

Het bouwen van gestandaardiseerde schepen is waar Damen groot mee is geworden. Toch heeft elke klant unieke wensen en eisen voor elk schip, zoals bijvoorbeeld een rotorzeil of mechanische afdekluiken. Daarnaast werk je ook aan de ontwikkeling van nieuwe scheepstypen om aan de voortdurend veranderende behoeften van de maritieme wereld te voldoen.

Als (Senior) Mechanical Engineer maak je deel uit van een engineeringteam en stuur je een klein aantal onderaannemers aan die het Basis- en Detailengineeringpakket voorbereiden. Je zult in verschillende vakgebieden van jouw expertise werken en je over tijd verder ontwikkelen.

Deze functie is beschikbaar in zowel Drachten als Gorinchem.

Belangrijkste verantwoordelijkheden

• Uitwerken van ontwerpen, specificaties, detail- en werktekeningen binnen de vastgestelde procedures en normen;
• Registreren en archiveren van ontwerpen, tekeningen en projectgerelateerde informatie;
• Structureel ontwerp en integratie van stalen uitrusting en constructies, zoals rompdeuren, trappen, etc.;
• Opstellen van constructieplannen en dekindelingen;
• Uitvoeren van berekeningen voor verdere uitwerking van gewichten, stabiliteit en structuren binnen de scheepsbouw;
• Uitvoeren van haalbaarheids- en risicoanalyses op het initiële ontwerp;
• Opstellen van bestellijsten en voorbereiden van technische specificaties voor inkooporders op basis van specificaties en planning;
• Ondersteunen bij goedkeuringsprocessen van klanten, classificatiebureaus en nationale autoriteiten;
• Coördineren van uitbesteed werk aan onderaannemers.

Vaardigheden en ervaring

Kwaliteitsbewustzijn en een praktische aanpak zitten in je bloed als engineer. Je bent proactief, creatief en werkt nauwkeurig. Daarnaast beschik je over de volgende kenmerken:

• Mbo-opleiding + in Werktuigbouwkunde;
• 1 à 2 jaar relevante werkervaring;
• Goede communicatieve vaardigheden in Nederlands en Engels;
• Interesse in innovatie en een open mindset voor nieuwe technologieën;
• Ervaring met softwarepakketten zoals AutoCAD, Rhino en Nupas-Cadmatic;
• Ervaring met Maxsurf of Siemens NX (FEM) is een pluspunt;
• Je werkt graag in een team, bent effectief in plannen en organiseren, leergierig en resultaatgericht;
• Uitstekende beheersing van de Nederlandse en Engelse taal;
• Beschikbaarheid van 32-40 uur per week.

The role

Building standardized ships is what Damen has become renowned for. However, every customer has unique requirements and preferences for each vessel, such as a rotor sail or mechanical hatch covers. In addition, you will contribute to the development of new ship types to meet the ever-changing demands of the maritime world.

As a (Senior) Mechanical Engineer, you will be part of an engineering team and oversee a small group of subcontractors responsible for preparing the Basic and Detailed Engineering package. You will work across various fields within your expertise and continue to develop yourself over time.

Key accountabilities

• Work out design, specifications, detail- and work drawings within the specified procedures and standards;
• Register and archive designs, drawings and project-related information;
• Structural design and the integration of steel outfitting and structures, such as hull doors, stairs, etc.;
• Drawing up, among other things, of construction plans and deck arrangements;
• Carry out calculations for further elaboration of weights, stability and structures in the shipbuilding area;
• Performing feasibility and risk analyzes on the initial design;
• Production of order lists and preparation of technical specifications for purchase orders based on the specifications and planning;
• Support in client, Class and national authorities approval process;
• Support in coordination of outsourced work to subcontractors.

Skills & experience

Quality consciousness and a practical approach is with you as an Engineer have in your blood. You are proactive, creative and working accurately. In addition, you meet the following features:

• Intermediate degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering;
• 1 or 2 years relevant work experience;
• Good communication skills in Dutch and English;
• An interest in innovation and an open mindset to new technologies;
• Experience with software packages like AutoCAD, Rhino and Nupas-Cadmatic;
• Experience with Maxsurf or Siemens NX (FEM) would be a plus;
• You enjoy working in a team, are effective at planning and organizing, willing to learn new skills sets, and you are results focused;
• Command of the Dutch and English language;
• Work experience in the Netherlands
• Availability of 32-40 hours per week.
