About us:

The workboats Division represents one of the four ship-newbuild domains of Damen Shipyards, alongside Offshore & Specialized Vessels, Yachting and Naval. Workboats focuses on designing, engineering, building and commissioning of Workboats, such as High Speed Craft, Fast Ferries, Stationary Dredgers and Tugs.

The development of Technology within the Shipbuilding industry is increasing fast. Damen Workboats wants to be in the forefront of these developments and is constantly looking for new ways to develop, design, standardize and optimize innovative systems.

The Technology Management department of the division Workboats is responsible for technology development and standardization of the ship’s systems portfolio based on modular and scalable solutions.

In order to achieve our goals, we are looking for a System Analyst for the system platform team “IT/OT on board” in the Technology Management department.

A system platform team is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for a so-called system platform. The system platform team takes care of the development, standardization and maintenance of the entire (standard) system during its full life cycle. For technical content, supply chain, production and quality control, knowledge management and documentation for in service support.

The System platform IT/OT on board is setting the fundamentals needed for software development and digital integration, adding value to our products and realizing safe & secure operations for our customers.

The role:

Are you passionate about digital innovation and eager to make a significant impact in the maritime industry? As a Digital Integrator / System Analyst, you will be an integral part of the IT/OT on board System Platform team within the Damen division Workboats. In this role, you will represent the Digital solution domain alongside Shipbuilding, Mechanical, and Electrical domains, working on the cutting-edge Damen Ship’s Automation Suite. This suite controls core technologies in Damen-built Workboats and delivers digital value to enhance our customers' operational excellence.
This role involves:

  • Innovative Design: You will design standardized software systems and controls based on specific requirements, ensuring they are ready for the digital age and tailored for Workboats.
  • Development and Standardization: You will play a crucial role in the development and standardization of technology for the workboats portfolio by other system platforms. Your focus will be on ensuring digital integration is achieved and documented with standardized, modular, and cyber-secure software.
  • Collaborative Environment: You will work in multi-disciplinary teams and closely cooperate with the System owner(s) IT/OT on board, the software development team, and the operational IT/OT on board team.
  • Cross-Platform Integration: Beyond your primary role within this system platform, you will also be connected to one or two other system platforms (e.g., Electric & Hybrid Propulsion, Alternative Fuels, Main Machinery), taking responsibility for the Digital integration.

Key accountabilities:

  • Digital Integration and Standardization: Integrating new technologies and standardizing modular and scalable software for system families, variants, and options that meet the needs of the entire Damen Workboats portfolio.
  • Setting Digital Requirements: Defining digital requirements for technology by considering business needs and market opportunities.
  • Converting Requirements: Translating requirements into functional and technical designs that optimize the IT on board and can be used in a standardized way in our design processes.
  • Translating Designs: Converting designs into control and automation requirements, ensuring that data on board is transformed into digital value.
  • Digital Product Ownership: Acting as the digital "product owner" for your domain, providing input to the software development team to develop software.
  • Delivering Standard Software: Providing standard and high-quality software, ready to be configured and deployed on board by the operations team.
  • Ensuring Maintainable Systems: Ensuring that systems are maintainable and fit within operational management processes.
  • Guiding Technology Development: Leading the development of technology with suppliers and partners by setting needs and requirements and reviewing technical solutions.
  • Contributing to Knowledge Management: Documenting knowledge in system principles, instructions, and training materials to support knowledge management.
  • Advising and Supporting: Advising and supporting the product platform teams with the selection and implementation of technology into the ship types product portfolio.
  • Writing Test and Validation Plans: Creating detailed test and validation plans to ensure compliance with regulations and to validate requirements during simulation and testing.


Skills & experience:

You are hands-on and have a broad technology interest and you are capable to get the essence of functions and technical possibilities of the embedded platforms to translate it to concrete opportunities. Next to that,

You have:

  • An academic level with a bachelor and/or master’s degree in a technical direction, e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Automation or Electrical Engineering or other technical study which involves integration of complex systems.
  • Affinity with software development;
  • Experience with scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, Simulink, ..) is a plus;
  • Knowledge of agile development methodologies, like Scrum or XP;
  • Experience with the application of Systems Engineering principles;
  • You have a high-quality consciousness and accuracy;
  • Effective communication skills in English, Dutch is a plus.
