Job

Introduction to the job

Are you motivated by demanding projects in a multidisciplinary context? Do you have the technical capabilities to provide innovative solutions? Does contributing to the world’s most advanced lithography machines make you feel responsible and proud? Then, this position might be the right opportunity for you.

Role and Responsibilities

To strengthen the Tribology and electrostatics group, ASML Research is looking for an Electrostatics specialist.

In the T&E group, we’re seeking to push the boundaries of electrostatic effects and convert them in new and innovative solutions for our machine modules. It’s a diverse group with physicists, material scientists and engineers who work together to stimulate creative ideas.
Electrostatic forces and charging effects are both used as a key part of our machines in, for example,  wafer clamping, but also can be caused due to secondary effects of other features in our machines resulting in unwanted effects or even damage.

You’ll be part of a team looking into the relatively new area of deep vacuum electrostatics related to our electron beam inspection tools.

Your goal will be to provide the Development & Engineering teams with best practices and solution directions for the next generation e-beam tools to improve both performance and reliability.

You will be responsible to perform the deep vacuum electrostatics research in interaction with development teams in the USA and Taiwan.

Together with an architect your goal will be to translate high-level roadmaps in to modeling and experimental studies to prove or disprove hypothesis and solution directions and help execute these studies.

With your team, you’ll question current understanding and methods to make revolutionary improvements and share your knowledge with the broader electrostatic community within ASML. This includes transfer of knowledge towards our colleagues in Taiwan and the USA, resulting in traveling 3-4 times a year.

Your role will be to bring essential electrostatic knowledge to the team and translate this knowledge to practical application solutions together with a multi-disciplinary team.

Education and experience

Education

You hold a technical university PhD or a master's degree degree (with 3-7 years of experience) in physics, mechanical/materials mechatronics, electrical engineering or similar, with expertise in surface interactions.

Experience

  • You have a good knowledge of electrostatics or related fields.

  • You’re experienced in high-voltage materials and tooling( preferred)

  • You’re able to communicate effectively in English across disciplines, organization levels having in mind the cultural boundaries.

  • You’re  willing to dive deep in the fundamentals of a problem and come up with new and innovative solution directions.

  • You have experience in Kelvin probe Force microscopy or generally conductive AFM.

Skills

Working at the cutting edge of tech, you’ll always have new challenges and new problems to solve – and working together is the only way to do that. You won’t work in a silo. Instead, you’ll be part of a creative, dynamic work environment where you’ll collaborate with supportive colleagues. There’s always space for creative and unique points of view. You’ll have the flexibility and trust to choose how best to tackle tasks and solve problems.
To thrive in this job, you’ll need the following Skills:

  • Openness to learn techniques outside of the above mentioned fields

  • Ability to cooperate within a highly skilled team of experts towards a common goal

  • Self-supporting skills and enthusiasm

  • Inquisitive personality with an analytical view

  • Commitment and motivation to achieve projects outcomes

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal) across disciplines and at all organizational levels.

Other information

The Tribology and electrostatics group is part of the Research department of ASML. Its task is to identify and fill in the technological gaps in the future roadmap of lithography and the lithography market. Our focus is on surface interaction control including the mechanical and material aspects and electrostatic phenomena in modules used in lithography tools. We work in small teams and deliver proof of concept solutions that can be transferred to Development & Engineering. We intensively work together with external research institutes and universities.
