The role

As an Enterprise Architect at Damen Naval, you'll be crucial in enabling continuous innovation in naval shipbuilding. By actively working with business stakeholders in shipbuilding and naval operations, you'll gain a deep understanding of their objectives. You'll then design and oversee the realization of the optimal enterprise architecture to achieve these goals, identifying and implementing essential IT landscape improvements. Your work will directly support our target-setting and drive business success. The official job title for this position is IT Architect.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Translating business objectives into IT solutions, identifying critical gaps in the current landscape to drive initiatives.
  • Developing comprehensive enterprise architecture, standard solutions, reusable building blocks, and high-level designs aligned with Damen Naval goals.
  • Integrating robust cybersecurity measures into all deliverables, ensuring the security of sensitive IT systems and data.
  • Collaborating across departments and architecture clusters (Damen Group, Solution Architecture, Damen Naval) to ensure seamless system integration and data flow.
  • Advising on solutions that support ship design, manufacturing processes, and naval operations.
  • Selecting optimal software and hardware based on efficiency, scalability, and compatibility.
  • Ensuring compliance with industry, government, and specific naval operations regulations.
  • Guiding IT programs and projects, aligning IT solutions with overall business strategies.
  • Staying abreast of technological advancements to continuously enhance IT system efficiency and effectiveness.


Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Master's degree in IT or a relevant technical field with 5-7 years of IT architecture experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proven knowledge and application of architecture frameworks like TOGAF in designing IT systems and translating requirements into solutions, with proficiency in various architecture tools.
  • Advisory experience at management and director levels, addressing process, landscape, compliance, and risk topics.
  • Experience in (naval) shipbuilding or manufacturing is a significant advantage, providing valuable context for business stakeholder objectives.
  • Strong command of English, both written and verbal, with Dutch proficiency preferred.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
