ASML (Veldhoven, Netherlands)
ASML is an innovation leader in the semiconductor industry. We provide chipmakers with everything they need – hardware, software and services – to mass produce patterns on silicon through lithography.
Can you translate (high-level) performance requirements into a flow architecture and can you provide guidance in getting technical issues solved? You will define the big technical picture that integrates the important details and provide technical direction to the development team through different project phases. This will lead to a cost effective design that works well and is easy to build and repair.
Role and ResponsibilitiesIn the position of Flow Architect, you are responsible for coming up with the architecture, agreeing on the specifications and functional integration of fluid (sub)systems. You provide technical guidance to a team that designs the gas, liquid and/or vacuum supply for the beating heart of ASML’s new lithography tool: the EUV light source! It is your job to ensure that the supply systems system solutions you propose will perform the needed role, are cost effective and allow easy manufacture and service.
The work consists of a translation of the high level system requirements into an architecture with documented specifications that meets these requirements. The requirements should be discussed and agreed with fellow architects working on different systems and requirement definition should be supported by creation of pressure, flow and cleanliness budgeting to the different users in the system. Together with the rest of the design team, you translate these specifications into conceptual designs and give technical guidance during the design process.
After the designed hardware is available, you are responsible for prototype testing that shows the system can perform as specified and works with the other system modules. In addition, you will help troubleshoot the system when performance is not met. Where necessary you improve the team knowledge by literature research, experimental testing or supervision of external research partners.
Education and experienceMSc/PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field of study.
SkillsWe are looking for someone that has a solid theoretical and experimental affinity with mass transfer phenomena and applications. The best fit is a self-propelling, motivated team player with good communication and coordination skills as you’ll be working in a dynamic environment with different technical disciplines. In your role, you will have to get support for the technical guidance you provide to a team of professionals. A systemic approach to problem solving and a pragmatic, results-oriented attitude will help you organize your work effectively. As the official company language is English, good command of the English language (both written and verbal) will help you succeed.
Other informationASML’s Development & Engineering (D&E) sector is responsible for the specification, design and integration of the ASML machines. In this sector, the department of Machine Conditioning – EUV Source & Apps, specifies, designs and does the functional integration of the various (sub-)modules and architectures related to fluid domains for the EUV Source. The department consists of discipline- and function-oriented groups where emphasis lies on particular knowledge/skills, architecture or modules in ASML machines.
The Fluid Architect reports to the Group Leader as well as the Project Leader(s). He or she maintains regular alignment with the Functional Architect of the overall function which his or her deliverables contribute to. Project team sizes vary from a few FTE to more than twenty FTE, a substantial part of which may be at a co-developer.
This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
