The role

At Damen Naval, as a Lead Engineer specializing in FEM, you will play a pivotal role within the Naval & Structural group. You will focus on all aspects of FEM detailed engineering within your area of expertise. Leading a team of FEM engineers, you will be responsible for all FEM deliverables, from basic engineering to yard support and vessel delivery.

Key accountabilities

As Lead Engineer FEM your key responsibilities will include:

  • FEM Analysis Deliverables: Ensure timely completion of all FEM analysis deliverables in the Project Documents and Activity List (PDAL).

  • Team Supervision: Lead a team of approximately 10 FTE across 4 locations, overseeing modeling, meshing, analysis, post-processing, reporting, and implementation.

  • Work Allocation: Collaborate with the Lead Structures and Lead Structural Analysis to prioritize and sequence work effectively.

  • Data Management: Manage and communicate data flow internally and externally.

  • Quality Control: Ensure the quality of all FEM deliverables.

  • Team Coordination: Coordinate with project and multi-disciplinary teams to deliver optimal client solutions.

  • Client and Class Coordination: Liaise with Class and clients to ensure alignment and satisfaction.

  • Engineering Excellence: Deliver high-quality engineering work within timeframes and budgets, adhering to quality standards.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and client specifications.

Skills & experience

To excel as Lead FEM, you should possess the following qualifications and qualities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

  • Over 5 years of relevant experience in ship structures, gained in the shipbuilding and/or offshore industry.

  • Proven experience with ANSYS (preferably APDL) Mechanical (implicit) is required.

  • Experience with LS-DYNA (explicit) is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with ship class calculations and tools such as DNV-GL Nauticus Hull, LR-SSC, or BV MARS2000 is a plus.

  • Good command of the Dutch English language both written and verbal.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
