Hop aboard Damen Naval; the naval division of the family-owned Damen Shipyards Group, where 12,000 professionals work worldwide. Damen Naval delivers advanced naval vessels to clients all over the globe. By implementing the most innovative technological developments in practice, we continue to push the boundaries of the shipbuilding industry. You can be part of our team! Are you ready for duty?

The role

As the Project Manager, Manufacturing Engineering, you will be instrumental in the entire shipbuilding process. You will take the lead in planning, designing, steering, and innovating manufacturing processes for the complete shipbuilding project. Your core focus will be to maximize efficiency by meticulously analyzing workflow layouts, specialized equipment, assembly methods, and workforce utilization. You'll accurately determine the necessary parts and tools to achieve manufacturing goals, and then plan, design, set up, modify, optimize, and continuously monitor these critical manufacturing processes.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the entire manufacturing engineering process for in-house yard work (covering Structural, Piping, Outfitting, Mechanical, and specialized activities during shipbuilding).
  • Leading and mentoring a dedicated team of Manufacturing Engineers assigned to the project.
  • Providing innovative solutions for all shipbuilding processes and thoroughly evaluating the technical specifications of subcontracted work.
  • Establishing clear structure for subcontractors and manufacturing processes, and enhancing efficiency through detailed analysis and planning of workflow, space, tool requirements, and equipment layout.
  • Ensuring product and process quality, and providing expert manufacturing decision-making support.
  • Completing design and development projects by effectively training and guiding technicians.
  • Maintaining professional and technical expertise through ongoing education, reviewing industry publications, building professional networks, and actively participating in professional societies.

Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A post-secondary vocational education (MBO) or higher professional education (HBO), preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Shipbuilding, Industrial Engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a machining or production environment, ideally within the shipbuilding industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing or industrial process design, advanced engineering techniques, and all phases of project management.
  • Proven ability to motivate personnel and drive performance, while fostering strong working relationships.
  • Excellent personal time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate conflicting deadlines effectively.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems, such as 3DX-Catia and Delmia, is a significant advantage.
  • Exceptional command of both Dutch and English (written and verbal) is essential for this role.
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
