About us

Within Damen, the IT&IM department is a professional provider of high-quality IT solutions and services and the enabler for digital transformation. The mission of IT&IM is to create business value by means of technology for Damen Shipyards Group by innovating the (digital) collaboration between colleagues, yards, ships, customers, and suppliers.

The Damen Group IT&IM department consists of approximately 160 FTE and provides 24-7 service to 38 business units and 6.000 users.

Damen embarked on the journey to implement SAP S/4 HANA as the global ERP system. Several Damen divisions are already fully operational with SAP. Others are being serviced in current and future roll-out projects in the years to come, as part of the global Digital Program.

The role

Your role will be in the global SAP Competence Center that guides the SAP implementation rollout projects and focuses on support and continuous improvement of the SAP S/4 HANA platform to meet growing and changing business needs. In this way, contributing to the strategic goals Damen has defined towards Operational Excellence and Digitalization.

The global SAP Competence Center consists of several multidisciplinary teams that operate DevOps. In this agile way of working, every sprint, new value is delivered to the business users of the SAP platform and requires a “you built it, you own it” mentality.

Within this context, the SAP Solution Architect for Finance and Controlling partners with business process owners across various maritime divisions, defines and delivers global solutions that are aligned with business and technology roadmaps in a way that is reusable across the enterprise. The SAP Solution Architect guides the (external) support and project consultants and ensures full compliance with the global Damen template solution in SAP.

Key accountabilities

• Translate business requirements into SAP requirements and technical roadmaps which will deliver value to the business;
• Provide expert functional & technical consultancy on SAP standard Finance (FI) and Controlling (CO) components, best practices and influence business process mapping;
• Ensure adherence to architecture guidelines, the global SAP template and alignment with adjacent SAP domains and processes;
• Maintain and share subject matter expertise/knowledge of the solution domain architecture and related functionality;
• Proactively identify, evaluate, promote and explain new SAP technologies and developments to safeguard the long-term sustainability;
• Support Business Process Owner(s) in building a community and in knowledge sharing;
• Provide guidance to the ongoing SAP implementation at the Damen divisions;
• Coach the SAP developers in the teams in which SAP solutions are being (re)build, to ensure that development of these solutions is in line with the roadmap and architecture;

Skills & experience

Must have:

• Relevant bachelor’s or academic degree
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant SAP Finance (FI) and Controlling (CO) across the entire suite. Preferably within S/4 HANA
• Strong integration knowledge to adjacent domains for project planning (PS – Project Systems), procurement and material master data (MM - Materials Management), warehouse management (EWM), work preparation and Production (Production Planning)
• Experience in defining integrated financial reports in SAP BW (Business Warehouse). Analysis for Office is used as the reporting front-end tool within Damen.
• Basic ABAP development skills and experience for exploring the best solution(s) within standard SAP’s extensibility options
• Strong knowledge on end-to-end financial and controlling business processes in a manufacturing global environment (ETO Engineer-to-Order and ATO Assemble-to-Order)
• Experience in business transformation programs, across business areas, countries, and cultures.
• Excellent communications skills in English, both verbally as well as in writing. Non-Dutch applicants are also welcomed but a EU work permit is required.
• Self- motivated, taking initiative and sharing innovative ideas with the ability to push back when required;
• Experience in working in a multi-cultural international environment at a global company.

Nice to have:

• Experience with working Agile /Scrum, SAFe and or Lean – Six Sigma work methods.
• Experience as integration manager / liaison consultant within complex SAP implementation projects.
