The role
As interim Senior xR Developer, you will lead the development of immersive Virtual Reality (VR) training solutions tailored for the naval sector. Utilizing your expertise in Unity and C# programming, you will create realistic simulations and interactive training experiences that elevate the skills of naval professionals.

Working in an Agile Scrum environment, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of developers, artists, and solution architects. This role offers the chance to drive innovation in xR development, contribute to critical naval training programs, and grow as a technical leader within a creative, supportive team.

Key accountabilities
As interim Senior xR Developer your key responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing immersive environments and serious games for training and virtual naval applications.
• Translating functional requirements into robust, maintainable, and scalable code.
• Delivering high-quality code increments within defined schedules, adhering to quality standards and cost guidelines.
• Maintaining and improving in-house tools used to create interactive courses.
• Driving process improvements and fostering knowledge sharing within the team.
• Coaching team members to ensure codebase integrity and adopting best practices.
• Ensuring full compliance with project requirements and specifications.

Skills & experience
To excel as interim Senior xR Developer at Damen Naval you should have the following qualifications and qualities:

• Bachelor’s degree in software development, game development, or a related field, with a minimum of four years of relevant experience.
• Extensive knowledge of and experience with C# programming, Unity Engine, and xR development, particularly VR applications.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented design, and design patterns.
• Additional experience with Python, Blender API, or relational databases is advantageous.
• Excellent command of English both spoken and written and proficiency in Dutch and/or German is a plus.
• Core competencies: customer-focused, results-oriented, creative, adaptable, self-organized, and a strong team player.
• Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
• Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.

This temporary assignment is exclusively offered on a secondment (detachering) or temporary employment contract basis. Freelance or ZZP agreements are not considered due to current Dutch legislation.
