THE ROLE

Damen Naval is seeking a Technical Specialist Rules & Regulations for the Plans & Arrangements discipline. In this pivotal role, you will serve as the critical link between engineering and the complex landscape of maritime regulations. Your expertise will ensure that our statutory plans comply with ship specifications, industry norms, and regulatory requirements, satisfying all stakeholders. You will collaborate with various technical teams and external entities such as classification societies and customers to deliver the best technical solutions.

As a Technical Specialist Rules & Regulations, you will collaborate with a team of engineers to create statutory plans and achieve class and client approval during the basic engineering phase. During the detailed engineering phase, you will interpret and apply norms, rules, and regulations, ensuring they translate into practical and effective solutions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Researching, analyzing, and interpreting norms, rules, and regulations, along with specific customer requirements for Plans and Arrangements (P&A) deliverables.
  • Drafting project-specific regulatory frameworks based on applicable norms, rules and regulations.
  • Ensuring relevant norms, rules, and regulations are accessible and clear for all engineering teams.
  • Creating a design basis for the Engineering Department.
  • Proposing and substantiating alternative solutions when deviations from the regulatory framework are necessary.
  • Supporting project engineers in implementing norms and regulations in their technical designs.
  • Keeping up with industry developments and adapting to new regulatory changes.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of the Plans & Arrangements department by sharing knowledge and optimizing processes.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Shipbuilding, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Extensive experience with and broad knowledge of Class- and Statutory regulations, preferably acquired with ships or offshore installations.
  • A passion for research and a commitment to sharing knowledge with colleagues.
  • Proficiency in 2D CAD and 3D CAD software such as MicroStation, Cadmatic, or 3DExperience (Catia).
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
