As an Estimator at Tata Steel in IJmuiden, you provide reliable cost estimates and budget forecasts for maintenance works, tenders, and project variations. Working closely with Maintenance and Procurement teams, you deliver cost analyses and commercial insights that support effective planning, cost control, and transparent project execution under optimal conditions.

You are responsible for preparing cost estimates and budgets for maintenance activities and projects within the portfolio. You collect, organize, and evaluate relevant financial information, identify deviations and ambiguities, and prepare estimates in various stages of preparation. 

You assess, interpret, and analyze the scope and complexity of maintenance activities, evaluate supplier quotations for completeness of scope and price level, and provide second opinions on cost estimates from third parties. 

Additionally, you make financial data and overviews available to stakeholders and support the optimization of calculation methods and budgeting techniques. You work closely with project managers, maintenance departments, procurement, and external contractors to ensure realistic cost approaches, and you are the sparring partner for cost-conscious project execution.

Prepare cost estimates and budgets for small tenders and project variations by collecting, structuring, and evaluating relevant financial information, and delivering well-substantiated estimates in various preparation stages.

Prepare cost estimates for maintenance activities by performing pre-calculations, counter-calculations, and post-calculations, identifying deviations and ambiguities, and preparing estimates in various stages of preparation.

Evaluate quotations and requests for completeness of scope and price level, assess supplier quotations, provide second opinions on cost estimates from third parties, and ask specific questions to arrive at well-substantiated estimates.

Provide cost-related advice to project managers, maintenance departments, procurement, and cost controllers by advising on realistic project estimates and calculating the consequences of changes on budgets and project execution.

Maintain relationships and data by keeping in contact with maintenance departments, procurement, and contractors, aligning on scope and assumptions, and making financial data and overviews available to stakeholders.

You're analytical, communicative, and able to ask the right questions to arrive at well-founded cost estimates. You feel comfortable in a role that requires a lot of collaboration and you use your technical knowledge to support others. You have an eye for detail in handling numerical information and in correctly applying prices and benchmarks. You work systematically, proactively identify deviations, and provide expert advice to various stakeholders. You balance accuracy with speed, especially under time pressure. Furthermore, you have:

• A completed Bachelor's degree (HBO level) in a technical field.
• At least 3-5 years of experience with cost calculations for maintenance activities, preferably in a large industrial environment.
• Thorough knowledge of technical specifications, particularly in mechanical maintenance.
• The ability to assess requests and quotations for quality and completeness.
• Knowledge of business economics at Bachelor's level for preparing realistic project estimates and budgets.
• Knowledge of project management and relevant automated systems (Excel, macros, spreadsheets).
• Strong communication skills in Dutch; English is a plus.

Jouw werkomgeving

You work within Projects & Engineering (P&E), Tata Steel's engineering and project management bureau responsible for renovation and new construction projects. You report to the manager estimating and working closely with project managers, maintenance departments, procurement, and external contractors. You're involved in various maintenance activities and projects that are essential for the operational continuity of Tata Steel IJmuiden.

You play a central role in determining realistic cost estimates that enable teams to effectively manage costs and maintain transparent agreements with suppliers.
