Within Damen, the Damen Data Services team is a professional provider of high-quality data driven solutions and services and the enabler for digital transformation. The mission of Damen Data Services is to create business value by means of data for Damen Shipyards Group by innovating the (digital) collaboration between colleagues, yards, ships, customers, and suppliers.

The Damen Data Services team is a new team and is on the journey to define, create and activate a Human Led, Data Powered organization, as part of the global Digital Program.

THE ROLE:

Our (senior) data architect is an IT professional responsible for managing our organization’s data design and architecture, working in the just established Damen Data Service team. In close collaboration with Data Owners & Stewards and our Enterprise and Business Architects, this involves designing, implementing and maintaining the data and information systems that store, process and analyze data. You play a crucial role in designing and managing enterprise data management frameworks, interpreting business requirements into technical requirements, and collaborating with various stakeholders to optimize data utilization. To put things simply, you are the bridge between data owners with business requirements and IT solutions for data.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Build enterprise data models and strategies

Constructing enterprise data models and strategies is vital responsibility of our data architect:

• Data models visualize the relationships between different data entities and according to TOGAF consisting of the conceptional, logical and physical model.
• Data strategies outline the organization’s approach to collecting, storing and analyzing data.
• Build robust data models and strategies, data entities are well organized and stored.

Designing enterprise data model frameworks

Our data architect is tasked with developing and implementing an overall organizational data architecture strategy aligned with our business strategy and processes. Furthermore, you design and manage centralized, end-to-end data architecture solutions, such as:

• Data model designs
• Data standards
• Enforce data architecture standards, principles, and security measures
• Create frameworks to track data assets and their flow, dictate their usage, and store and integrate them.
• Identify potential bottlenecks and areas for improvement, ensuring that the organization’s data management and analytics solutions remain agile and efficient.
• Sound knowledge and expertise of Microsoft Azure frameworks is fundamental.

Supporting data management processes

In close collaboration with or Data Governance & Master Data Management, Data-lake and Analytics & reporting teams being able in supporting data and database management processes is another crucial responsibility. These processes include:

• Data ingestion
• Data transformation
• Data storage

In collaboration with our CISO ensuring data security and compliance

Together with our CISO, you will ensure that the organization’s data infrastructure is designed and maintained with security best practices in mind, minimizing the risk of unauthorized access and data leaks. In addition to implementing security measures, data architects must also stay current with industry regulations and standards, such as ABDO and GDPR for personal information in the EU.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• 6+ years’ experience as a data architect;
• Relevant bachelor’s or academic degree;
• Experience within the manufacturing industry and is hands-on;

Soft skills for data architects:

• Being able to engage with senior management;
• Explain complex concepts in simple terms;
• Address intricate issues related to data management;
• Ensure that data strategies align with business objectives;

Technical skills for data architects:

• Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python);
• Database management and design;
• Data modeling and design and experience with data modelling tools (e.g., PowerBI);
• Metadata management;
• Knowledge and experience in working with Microsoft Fabric and even broader Azure stack;
• Experience / exposure with Cloud Data Engineering services or Cloud Data Stores (e.g.,Synapse);
• Experiences amongst others with SAP, Workday and SalesForces;
• Leverage latest technologies to improve data management processes and drive business success. Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, e.g., Machine Learning, Artificial intelligence, GenAI, Big Data, Database Management, Cloud computing, etc.
