The role

As the Project Manager Procurement at Damen Naval, you will lead the entire procurement and outsourcing scope for our cutting-edge naval vessel projects. You'll inspire and guide a team of dedicated project purchasers, ensuring that every acquisition aligns perfectly with project plans, quality standards, budgets, and timelines. You will be responsible for upholding full compliance with all requirements and specifications, overseeing all procurement processes for components and systems, including outsourcing. This is your opportunity to ensure the consistent application of our Supply Chain policies and drive process enhancements to optimize project execution.

Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage, supervise, execute, and monitor all procurement activities for products and services within your assigned projects, from supplier qualification and selection to contracting and aftercare.
  • Ensure all supplier contracts are complete, consider every cost variable, and are executed flawlessly, maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Proactively track project performance and progress, initiating timely mitigating actions and contributing to contingency plans for key suppliers when needed.
  • Evaluate both international and local suppliers/sub-contractors, continuously seeking to enhance their performance and development.
  • Lead a category team, defining and executing category strategies for both strategic and non-strategic suppliers, while driving market research and supplier development initiatives.
  • Ensure the consistent application of procurement policies and processes within project execution, actively initiating and creating clear procedural adjustments in consultation with the Department Manager Procurement.

Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in a technical or business administration field, ideally supplemented with Nevi-2 certification or a strong willingness to obtain it.
  • 7+ years of experience in procurement, with a minimum of 3-5 years in a project management or leadership role within complex, technical, or shipbuilding projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a team of procurement professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and methodologies, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of contract law, negotiation strategies, and commercial terms, with proven experience in drafting, negotiating, and managing complex supplier contracts.
  • Experience in developing and implementing category strategies and driving strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication, influencing, and negotiation skills to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers at all levels.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written, is essential
  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
